About This Chapter
In this short scene, the audience is introduced to a number of characters, each of whom has a different story to tell. The first person introduces himself as "Ganymede," and the second person as "1-1." Ganymede tells the audience that he is an orphan who has been living in the same apartment as the "little orphan" who burned to death in the fire. He has come to beg for water, and the first person is sorry that he did not leave him a drink. The second person says that she did not want to ask him for a drink because she was afraid that he would get angry if she did.
