About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a description of the sixth summer as butler for the aren't family. It's the season for new servants, and the butler says that he's worried about Miss Mystia because there are so many people around who are falling in love with the young lady. The butler tells the reader that the head of the job area is responsible for hiring the "pests" . He also tells us that the former chefs have been fired because they didn't like the food served by the butler's brother-in-law, who's now the head cook for the family. He's also worried that the other gardeners haven't been fired, but that they've handed in their resignations. He gives the reader a list of the applications for butler positions, and he says that the applicants are "flip-mand," "edy," and "ind-cand mining." The butler worries that the servants in the manor are "not normal," and that the butler has to do his best to protect MissMystia. He suggests that he might keep an eye out for her at night, but he says it's "definitely fate" that she'll eat bland food alone. He decides to give the servants chocolate each year, and says he'll always be there for her.
