About This Chapter
In this short scene, King John tells his daughter-in-law, surka, that he is dying and that he will not let her die. He tells her that he has come to give her a cup of the moon, a symbol of the unity of humankind. He asks her to hold the cup, but also to give him her hand, as he wants to be able to touch it. He then tells her to turn around and face the enemy, who will soon be coming to kill her. He says that he must continue to sail into Tartarus, a land far away from war, to reclaim the kingdom for his daughters.
