In this chapter, we learn that we're in a bar in London, England. We're introduced to a young man named Ken, who's just arrived at the police station. He's here because he heard that something strange was going on in the city. Ken tells us that he came to the station because he's heard a lot of strange things about the city, and he wants to find out what's going on. He asks the bartender if he can find Ken's boyfriend, but the bartender doesn't believe him. He tells Ken to sing a song about love that moves his heart, and if Ken can do that, he'll let him go. The bartender tells Ken that if he wants his boyfriend back, he should enter into a contract with him, but since Ken is a customer of Madame Pernelle's, he might as well pay for the service himself. Ken asks if the bartender knows who Ken is, and the bartender tells him that he does. He also tells Ken not to worry about him, because if he fails to impress the bartender with his singing, the bartender will lock him in a cage. Ken thanks the bartender for saving his life, and says that now that he thinks about it, his chains have been broken.
