About This Chapter
In this chapter, the reader learns that the cube chose the narrator because it revealed the cube's purpose to him. The narrator feels guilty about everything that has happened to him, and he is sorry that his affair with ethan has made him feel so guilty. He tells the reader that all religious texts, including the Bible, have destroyed and rebirthed in there somewhere. He explains that the fear instilled by the apocalyptic visions did not stay long after awakening, and that ethan keeps talking about the cube. He wants to see the narrator, and the doctor is happy with the progress he has made. He is healing up well, and ethan wants to know how he is feeling. He says that he is so sorry for everything, especially the sumerian texts, the bible, the car commercials, and all the symbols that have appeared throughout history. He compares the symbols to angels, and says that they are the "ultimate irony" of human history, as they were able to tell stories from two different points of view. He asks the reader to come with him to the cube, where he will explain the science behind it.
