In this chapter, we learn that the rulers of Rome have been collecting information on the citizens of delphi since they were born. They've been using this information to spy on the people of the city. The rulers want the citizens to believe that the "triumvir" is one of the three divine beings. This is why they're trying to track the whereabouts of their people. They lost one of their spies, a man named alvar, who used to work at a company called "deltoid data" . They believe that he's been sequestered at a high portal in the city's upper quarters. We learn that alvar used to be a member of the Church of the Resurrection, but he left because he didn't like the way the church was run. We also learn that three of the pope's followers have been found dead with their tongues cut out in the church's lower quarters.
