In this short scene, the Governess tries to explain to her lover that she has come to help him. She tells him that his lady must fulfill all of his wishes before he can leave her. The Governess is shocked to find that he has left her in the dark, and that he even changed her clothes. She asks him who he is, and he tells her that he is the one who has resuscitated her. She is horrified to find him in the pond, and she begs him to come help her.
