About This Chapter
The doctor tells the boy that his genitalia are divided between males and females, but there is no infection in the abdomen. The doctor advises the boy to put on some clean clothes, but the boy refuses to do so. He tells the doctor that he will finish his work with Carrara in a few days, and the doctor tells him to be careful not to interfere with his work. The boy says that he does not want to see anyone else's body in the mirror, and that he is doing this for his own sake. He asks the doctor to tell him what happened after he shot Carrara. Rumors spread that a failed robbery had been attempted, and Carrara's property had been transferred to his apprentice. The city council recognizes Carrara as his heir, and he is now accepted into the guilds of merchants. Carrara asks the boy if he would like to stay in the city with him, but he refuses, saying that he would rather live in the country.
