About This Chapter
The chapter opens with the arrival of the missionaries, who have come to the village to teach the lunar religion to the local people. The local people are shocked to learn that the missionaries are coming to teach them about the afterlife, but the local woman tells the missionaries not to worry about it, because she has heard rumors that the villagers have been destroying their towns if the missionaries ever come to their village. When the missionaries arrive, the woman tells them that the insects they see on the ground are ladybugs, and that they should be nice to the young man, since he has no education. The young man responds by saying that he would like to be educated, but that he is not sure that school is the best option for him. The woman tells him that he should not worry about his name, since it is convenient to have one's own name, and since he came from the moon, he is ten years old. She tells him about confucius, who says that he likes to study and practice what he has studied, and she says that this is a pleasure. She also tells him to take a bath, since she has never taken one before, and it will wash away all of the weariness that she accumulated from her studies. She says that she has come to save the people from their sadness, since they are all dissatisfied with their work. She then tells them to come to her with an arrow, to pierce their sadness with her arrows. She promises that she will make them happy.
