The next morning, the narrator wakes up in the middle of the night. He's having a nightmare about a mushroom and a popsicle. He can't figure out what it's all about, but he's pretty sure that the mushroom and the popsicle are signs that something's up. He asks the narrator to come with him to the school's central surveillance room, where he'll be able to see what's been going on. The narrator doesn't want to go, but the narrator promises to go anyway. When the narrator gets there, he finds out that the surveillance room is in the same room as the one where Mizuno had invited him to hang out with him the night before. When he realizes that he has been waiting for the narrator, he realizes he has a weird feeling.
