About This Chapter
The scene opens on a balcony in the middle of the night, where Hirokazu is embracing Hiro's lover, who is wearing his pajamas. The two men embrace, and the narrator tells us that they've only been holding hands once before, and that he's the one who's been holding her hand this time. The narrator tries to get Hiro to shake his hand, but she doesn't want to, so he grabs her hand and squishes it so hard that he thinks she's closed her eyes. He apologizes, saying that he was trying to "get rid of my worldly desires" . He's so sorry that he makes a weird sound, and apologizes again. He swears that he wasn't actually trying to touch her, but that it's not true. He says that she hasn't even held his hand since the night before, which is why he thought she was holding it back. He asks her if she'd like to touch him again, and she says she would, if he took off his clothes. She says she'll do it if he takes off his own clothes, but he won't, because he'll stare at her too much. He tells her that he already screwed up the first time he met her, and now he wants to "mess up" her again. She's kind, she says, and even now, she tells him, she still loves him.
