This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the story, when Nemo and the Governess are on their way to the rescue mission. The Governess asks Nemo if he still needs her, and Nemo replies that he does, but that he'd rather just forget about it now. He's not going to let her touch him, he says, because he's going to hit her with his dog. He tells her not to move, not to twitch his hip, and not to bully her. He also tells her to ask about borrowing other people's things before they go off on their mission. He says he'll be back soon, and that he doesn't want to hurt anyone. He asks if she's okay, and she says she is.
