In this chapter, the narrator tells us that he's grown up. He's taller, and his shoulders are wider, but he can still do what his father used to do. He says that his father is the cause of everything that's wrong in his life. He used to say that he shouldn't go to school because he was "filial" and ignorant, but now he says that he should join the workforce early so that he can bring home more money to support his family. He also says that one time, his teacher helped him, but that teacher's kids were scared because of the man's presence. The narrator doesn't know how long this man will be around.
