The scene opens with a conversation between the Governess and her boss. The Governess tells her boss that she hasn't seen him before and asks him if he'd like to have a chat. He says that he's working right now and wants to get some alone time. She tells him that the kid is with her and that she's going to let him go. He tells her to be careful because he'll pick on newcomers unless they want to be "eaten alive" like hell. He's known to pick off newcomers unless he wants to be devoured like hell, she tells him. She says that even though she has a wife, she'd rather be eaten alive by her boss than be his lover. She's not mad at him for being her lover, she says, even though his wife is an actress. She goes on to say that the man who said that she was his wife wasn't her husband, but was just a sur person. She doesn't know what to make of this. The man said that her husband was a rich guy and that he was going to make a lot of money off of her.
