The younger man says yes, and they start eating together. The elder man tells him that he can't eat alone, because he hates everyone in the family. He also tells the young man that he found out that his sister-in-law, hinako, died in an accident, and that her family took her in. The young man asks the elder to send the letter to his brother, who's supposed to meet in three days, and he agrees to do so. The old man says that he hasn't been able to find out anything about the girl's apartment since she died, but he does have a letter from her that's been sitting on his desk for three months.
