Josh says that they go out on dates to see if they're attracted to each other, and that's how they get to know each other. He says that in the U.S., it's more common for people to get married after having sex, but in Japan, people are more likely to start getting married after they've had sex. This is why they go on dates in the first place, because they want to see what people think of them before they get married. They don't want to wait for a long time for a date, so they go to the mall to check out some of the stuff Riku has bought for his room. He asks Riku if he's sure that he likes the stuff, and she says yes, and they go off to buy some more stuff.
