About This Chapter
In this short scene, Rorilane explains to the boy that she has been unable to communicate with the machine because her mind is "lost in the weave" . She is being punished for her disobedience, and the boy agrees to help her. He tells Rori that he is staying with her until she wakes up, and then he will leave. He says that he has seen a group of young people ignoring the curfew and the police standing around "looking quite certain angry" , and he urges the boy to use his power to "see their emotions" without taking them. The boy says that the police are surrounded by a "dirty shes crazy shes surround" of people, and that they need to "fuck that" before they can kill the innocent people around them. He adds that they should put down their weapons and wait for the police to "stir a display of aggression" and "get to be" before killing them all. He asks the boy why he does not kill him, and asks him to tell him what he is up to.
