The narrator asks the young man why he wants to break off his relationship with the older man. The young man tells him that he saw the two of them together in the street and that it made him realize that the old man has no right to be with a young man like him. The narrator says that he is not in love with the man, but that he does not know why he would want to kiss him. He says that the only person he can talk freely about such things is his childhood friend, who is the only one he can confide in about the whole thing. He adds that he cannot tell anyone about the kiss because he is afraid to rush things.
