About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that James is looking for a new band to play with. He's bummed that he can't find any. He tells his friend, the piano player, that he's been practicing for a long time and that he needs someone to help him break into the music scene. He asks his friend if he'd like to play some music with him. The piano player tells him that he went to his old school and that his teacher said that he was the best piano player she'd ever seen. He also says that the funk band is getting together on Saturday. He wants to know the address of the place where they're going to be playing. James says that he doesn't need his mom and dad to look down on him and give him dirty looks. He says that when he has a reputation, no one will know who he is. He and his friend decide that they'll rent a place in town and start a band. They'll play a bunch of their own music and give away their own records to the people who come to see them. The first 50 people to come to the show will get a free taste of their new music.
