In this chapter, we are introduced to Laurent's plan to trap the rebels on a remote island at the southern tip of the African continent. Laurent is wounded in the battle, but he is determined to take the rebels down. He tells his lieutenant that he has changed his mind, and that the junta has offered him a position as a military advisor. Laurent says that he is going to use the opportunity to cut out the part of the jellyfish that contains a "slow-incubating virus" that will make the island a "free exploration zone."
