The scene opens with the narrator's description of the wet bed in which he is staying at a motel. He is dripping from the shower, and he cannot believe that someone as snobbish as himself could be dripping so much. He wonders why his clothes smell so bad, and then he realizes that he is late for work. He decides to go to work, but he is interrupted by the voice of a woman who stomps on the two of them. The woman tells him that she is on her team for the day, and that he should not try to get in the way of her work.
