The chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the novel. Young Kim, the young lawyer, has just started his job at a law firm in South Korea, where he is to sign a one-billion-won contract with a client. The client is a "vip client" , which means that the client is one of the most important clients in the country. Young Lee, the firm's head of legal affairs, is accompanying Young Kim to the signing of the contract. He tells Young Lee that the contract will ensure that the firm follows all the laws and regulations in order to perform the contract effectively.
