The scene opens with Susan Larry returning her sister's purse. She tells her sister that she has heard all about her affair with her father and that she wants to know if she will ever be kind to her sister. She promises to take good care of her sister and tells her uncles that her father lied to them about the affair. Susan's uncles tell her that if her father does not want to drown, then the inheritance will go to her father's closest relative. They are shocked that she would want to take their family for fools.
