About This Chapter
The narrator explains that he has decided to take over the role of the Duke's daughter, Charlotte, who is to attend the wedding of Prince Asbert and the Duchess of Cambridge. He explains that the Duchess's mother died a year before Charlotte's birth, so she did not feel welcome in her father's household and in society at large. However, her unbridled cuteness made her family and servants fall for her, and she viewed her as "a precious little sister" . The narrator tells us that claire is sixteen years old, and that she was born as the eldest daughter of the family. Her mother died just one year before her arrival, so her family did not welcome her in their household or in social life as a whole. She was expected to be the heir to the throne, but her father died before she could be born, and so she was treated as a "fallen daughter" by her family. She tells the narrator that her magic should be very powerful, but that she is the "failure" of the Martino family. He tells her that leo was suddenly "unnaturally nice" when his father died, but his father was the only person who changed her most. He says that he is sure that the wedding will take place the next day, and he asks her to show him around her room. She says that she will show her around the room, but she does not want her sister to know what she is doing. She asks if she can come after dinner, and the narrator says he will, but he must head to his family cottage immediately. He asks her if she knows what is going on, and if she does, she tells him that she knows everything. She also says that the pride she had protected from her father was all an illusion, and whether or not her father believes that her failure was tormenting her precious Charlotte is another issue. She adds that she must head immediately to her family cottage, since the wedding is just around the corner. She wants to get some rest, and says she has found the "hardest route in eternal love" , and asks her sister if she remembers where she is. She remembers that it took her all of two to clear the way for her to get to the wedding. She explains that she threw away the letter that her mother had written to her before she was fifteen, so that she could build up her relationship with leo, who found the letter in a vault when he was fifteen. She is glad that she
