"No Way" is the first line of the novel's epigraph. It's about a girl who is being pushed to her limits by a man who wants to "lick" her, but she doesn't want to be "licked." She wants the man to "swallow" her and "rust" her "deep inside." The narrator tells us that the man she's talking about is a guy named yanagi, who works at a bank. He's getting a promotion, and he's a hot topic in the bank because he pays attention to the "goings on" of other employees in the department of loans. Unsure of what's going on, the narrator asks herself if she has ever propositioned a man for sex. She says that she hasn't, but that she'd been "snatched up" for a husband by some other girls. The narrator then tells us about a party that's been going on at the bank, and she wonders if it's because of her hair and her outfit.
