He's not the only one who wants to slap his brother, though, and he's the one who's trying to get him to do it. The narrator asks the boy to open the door so that he can have a "proper talk" with him, but the boy won't let him in, saying that "it'll all be over for you." The narrator promises that he'll come over to the boy's place when the boy is all better, and the boy promises to come back when he is better. He promises to go home and rest up, and then he promises to give the boy a "reward" for his "great job enduring it" : "smooper pound ah!" .
