The older one says he'll come back soon, and the narrator says that's fine, he just came back from a beer binge. He wants to go home, but the narrator wants to make sure that he doesn't get a cold, so he tells him to get his wet clothes off before he catches a cold. He tells the narrator to "swig drip drip" before he gets a cold , and to "strip before you get a damn cold" ; the narrator will be his "practice partner" for the rest of the chapter.
