In this short scene, Shmoop explains that he first met the vampire, shima, when he was in middle school. He explains that shima is a foreigner, but that he is a Japanese vampire. He tells tetsu that if something happens to him, he needs him to protect shima because he is "a failure" as a vampire. The two men have moved into a new house together, and setsu asks teru what his name is. seru replies that his father sometimes lets him drink the blood of his uncle, who is also a vampire, and that both uncles are beginning to age. . He says that he needs the vampire to protect him, because if anything happens, he will need him to do the same thing to shima as he would to a human being. He adds that if shima becomes his companion, and they become the same, they can be together forever. , . : . I didn't know you would become this important for shima" , he says. He goes on to explain how shima's mother was a starving traveler, who died leaving him alone. Without his assistance, s/he grows slowly, and he is neither a vampire nor a human. If he feels the same way, he should drink his blood and become the vampire of shima. Then he should go away, but he does need the vampire , who has been human enough for him for so long, and who feels that way for a very long time.
