In this chapter, the narrator is an 18 year old student at the University of Pennsylvania. He has just moved into his own apartment, and he is beginning to feel uneasy about his new home. He tells his roommate, who is also a student, that he is haunted by a ghost. The roommate tries to convince him to go out for a walk, but the young man is too scared to do so. The ghost tells him that he will be banished from the university the next day.
