About This Chapter
"Static Electricity" is the season of electricity. It's the time of year when people can't get close enough to touch anything, so it's really hard for the narrator to get close to anyone. He says that he and Tomo broke up in the winter because he couldn't stand the cold, so he wants to spend Christmas with him this year. He tells Tomo that he's never had anyone touch him with this kind of electricity before. Tomo says that's a good thing, because it means that someone will still want to spend time with him. The narrator says that this is the first time anyone will want to be around him, and he feels bad for hurting him. He tries to get Tomo to stop touching him, but Tomo doesn't want to get too close. He's worried that they'll get shocked, but he says that they can get used to it before Christmas. He also says that seeing how positive Tomo is, making him feel better about himself, is making him happy. When Tomo ignored the static, the narrator says, it made him really happy. This is why he started spending time alone, he says, because he always steps back when he hurts someone else. If he touches someone, he can get a really bad shock, but if he touches you, he'll never let you go. He can touch anyone without getting on Christmas ! He says this is like "a dream for me" , too, because if we can touch someone, then he can touch them all he wants.
