The chapter opens with a soliloquy by the demon, in which he compares himself to a boy who wants to be "a good boy extra" . He says that he loves his partner, but that he doesn't love him as much as he used to. He tells his partner that he's going to have to use "contraceptives" to get him to stop having sex with him. He also says that tomorrow is their "usual meeting" , and that they'll have to "freeze our bodies" so that they don't have to have sex with each other. He's worried that tomorrow's meeting will be the one that will get him fired, but he says that since he was "born as a conscience," he hasn't had to work so hard to get to the top of his class. But now, he says, once they start having sex, he starts to fill his head with thoughts of "only him," and he realizes that they have to work harder to get rid of him. The two of them decide to hold off on having sex until they're adults.
