The scene opens with Dr. Manette complaining that she's tired and that she has to go for a bath first. She's worried about her son, Hasumi, who's been flirting with her. She tells him not to worry, though, because she'll take care of him later on. But she doesn't know how to stop him from flirting with another man. She also tells him that he's too innocent to be tempted by another man, and that he should just stop flirting with Hasumi. She warns him that if he keeps flirting with someone else, he'll be tempted to do the same thing to another man too, and he won't have the courage to stop it. Dr. Menette tells her that she can't stop her son from flirting, but she can only do so by keeping an eye on him more closely.
