About This Chapter
"Sod being alone" is the title of this chapter's opening scene. It's the first time we've heard the phrase "sod" before, so we're not sure what to make of it. The narrator tells us that it's easier to be alone than it is to be with someone else. He asks if the narrator is still at the hotel where he's been staying with the guy he just met, and the narrator tells him that he is. He also tells the narrator that the guy is still taking pictures of him, and he asks the narrator to take him inside to listen to the guy's side of the tale. He invites the guy inside so that he can hear the narrator's story, which the narrator doesn't want anyone to hear. He's not sure why the narrator wants to hear this story, but he wants to know what the heck is going on. He wants to ask the narrator if he knows the guy from school, and if he does, he wants him to tell him not to have sex with anyone else, because he is a "virgin devourer" . And he wants sex too, too. He says that he'd like sex, too, if he could, and that he wants it from someone who isn't a virgin, like the narrator. So, he says, he just wants sex with someone who is not a virgin. And that's what the narrator does. He gives her a doll to practice with, and she says that she's ready to go. She's also ready to practice sex with the doll, too . She says that if the man she just met is out in the snow waiting for her, she'll give him a hard time about not having sex with her. And then she asks if he can stay for the night,
