About This Chapter
This chapter opens with the narrator, Tetsuji, coughing in the street. He's been bullied by his brother, and he's worried about what he'll do if he doesn't get his chest back. The narrator tries to calm him down, telling him that it's okay to cry on his chest if he needs it, and that he can cry on it anytime. He also tells him that if he wants to, he can go to his chest and cry. Teta says he can't understand why his chest is all messed up, but he does have a feeling that something is going on inside of him that will make him feel better. He wants to know what's going on, and the narrator tells him to just listen to him. He tells Teta that his brother bullied him again, and Teta asks him if he'd been bullied before, too. He says no, but Teta tells him not to worry about it, because he has one thing going for him: his chest. He asks Teta to tap on it, so he can feel better about his chest any time he wants it. He then says that his chest looks just like the one in the dream, but his heart is pounding, and his body feels just like it did in that dream. He wonders how he could possibly live if he were to suddenly transform into a woman, and how he would be able to hide his body from the secret organization that might be out there trying to find out who he really is. If he were a virgin, he says, Teta would be telling him to "suck lick lick lick" , which sounds like a lot of sucking, but is actually a lot more sucking than it was in the real dream. So he squeezes on the chest, and it feels just as if it were the real thing, even though Teta has never felt anything like it. Then he says that he
