The chapter opens with Hiroshi's father thanking him for his kindness. Hiroshi thanks him for taking care of his wife, who has been bedridden for a long time. He also thanks Hiroshi for being so kind to him and for being such a good son. He tells Hiroshi that he hopes he will get better soon. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by Hiroshi, in which he tells the audience that his son is a "little too happy" for his own good.
