The narrator tells us that he's going to go to the monster's house. He's got a choice: he can live or he can die. He doesn't know if he'll live or die, but he knows that his soul is connected to the other's. He can't get out of the house, even though his body is on fire and his throat is burning. He knows that the monster needs help.
