This chapter begins with a description of the laws of jungle survival. The strong survive, and the weak die. The weak become "food for the strong" . This is because the weak always try to kill those who are stronger than them, but they do not do so because they are cowards. This chapter ends with a soliloquy by the Governess, in which she explains that everyone will praise her because she is so good at what she does. She says that she will see him after school and that he has not gone to school in three years. She tells him that he could have been sick. He tells her that he thinks he is in a dream. He says that he is going to see him later. He asks if she is there and she says no. He goes on to say that she wants him to call for a manager. She asks him to get lost and he says that it seems like they have lost their minds. He then asks if he has been doing well and she replies that she has been okay. He wonders how it feels to be back to his normal life. He feels that he can sense that she feels the same way.
