About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a conversation between Sara and Emma. Emma tells Emma that she doesn't care what other girls think of her. She blames herself for not being more attentive to her friend, who was by her side all along. Emma says that if she had been more attentive, things might have been different. She tells her friend that she's not the one who's responsible for the situation. She says that it's her fault, not her friend's, because she didn't take the time to care about her friend. Emma admits that she wishes she were more concerned about other girls. She's sad that she can't blame herself for what happened to Johanna, but she blames himself for not caring enough about her. Emma thinks that she and the other girls will be able to get through the spring without having to worry about the rest of the students. She thinks that they'll have enough time to get the greenhouse ready for the students to arrive in the fall. Emma also tells Emma about how sad it was that she had to leave the greenhouse and not come back to school. Emma fantasizes about failing the test on purpose. She imagines that the classmates will say goodbye to her in tears and silje will come out to say goodbye. Emma realizes that silje is just trying to deal with her fear of getting sick.
