"Mi heart remained there" , the narrator tells us, as if it's been a long time since he's felt that way. He's not sure that the school is "a conventional school" . He doesn't think that it'll affect him as much as it will affect the other students. Still, he thinks that he and Silje have a lot in common. Silje has her scarf, and the narrator finds it tangled in a tree branch. They decide to share the secret of their scarf, but Silje won't tell him who it is. The narrator is glad that Silje is staying at the school, because he'd miss out on the best thing ever. He thinks Silje will teach him everything there is to know about school, but he thinks she'll be able to teach him only the secrets of Silje's school. He feels that he has to "shine on" his first exam, which is the most important day of the year.
