In this chapter, we are introduced to the creator of the book "Scare City" , a young man named Christophe Sonesaksith. He is an assistant editor at a large, Los Angeles-based publishing house called "Humanoids" . In the course of his work, he has published a number of books, including "The Mechaniks" and "Aliens," as well as a few other works. He has also written several articles for the Los Angeles Times , including a recent piece on "The Art of the Mechanik." He is also a frequent guest on the talk show "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." In this short chapter, he introduces us to the book's protagonist, a small-town boy named George, who is the owner of a bakery called "Bake Shop 100 Vortex Terrace." The bakery advertises a free "scrawlgrub pie" with every purchase, and George is kind enough to let us know that he and his family live in the "scare city" of Los Angeles.
