In this chapter, we get a brief description of Buzz Lightyear's ship, which has just landed on an alien planet. We learn that his ship has run aground, and he's landed on a "strange planet" . We also learn that the terrain is unstable, and that he and his friends are all impressed with his new toy, the "space ranger" , which is a toy that doesn't do anything. He's just like a toy, he says, and they'll all be impressed when they see him jumping into infinity and beyond. He also says that his mark on the ship has already faded, and no one has taken him away from him. He says that he'll have to show them how to jump into infinity or beyond, but he can't stop talking about the toy, because it's all getting on his nerves. He calls out to his friends to knock the heck out of him, but they don't listen to him. They run off to grab some gas, and then he realizes that he is a lost toy, and the local sheriff is at a gas station.
