This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the Governess. She tells us that she is deeply indebted to her Governess for all she has done for her. The Governess tells her that she promised to help her stand firm, and she is grateful for her help. She asks if she is going to go out, and when she says no, she says she is not going out. She says she will stay in the same place the next day, and that she will not leave. She then tells her employer that she wants to tell him something, and asks him to come to the future workbook and tell her what is going on. She also tells him that she has been awake all day and has asked an old shi to come
