Everyone is shocked to learn that Jack has been blown up in the smith's yard. The police have shot down the imposter, but there is no sign of Santa Claus. Jack hears that everyone is out of luck and that the pumpkin king is "a pile of dust" . The dice have landed on seven, so Jack is sure that he is dead. He tries to escape, but the police have told him he is "double dead" and that he must have been shot in the back. He screams, "clink, clink! clink!" . He grabs the long jack and yells at the police to look what he's done.
