In this scene, the narrator tells us that he has made up his mind to see Scott again. He's never paid any attention to Scott since they last saw each other, and they haven't seen each other for a long time. He tells us he's decided to go to the concert that night, but he can't find a place to stay on his own, so he'll take him to a friend's place.
