The next morning, Li tells the innkeeper that he has to return to the Inn of the Golden Day. He says that he cannot figure out how to poison the landlord, and that no ordinary doctor is capable of such things. Li wonders why the doctor opened a medical practice in the midst of such turmoil. He wonders if the doctor only wanted to make money, and why he also saved the civilians of the city and the refugees outside.
