About This Chapter
In this chapter, we are introduced to neville, who has come to see rufus. He tells her that he does not believe in god, and that he will protect her, but that he cannot listen to her because his heart hurts so much. She tells him that she will protect him, but she will not allow herself to listen to his thoughts, and she will hide herself within her thoughts. She says that she is the cause of the whole thing, and apologizes for being too harsh on her. She is glad that she came to see her, because she knew that she would not have come if she heard that she fell ill. She apologizes again, saying that she did not come to heal her wounds. She also apologizes that she was not there to heal their wounds, and says that even though she knew it was lying, there is still no way she would have come, even if she had heard that the woman had fallen ill. He says that he is having a wine-party with some of his new friends, and this is where he became "heretical." He wants to marry her, he says, so that he can take the opportunity to be her husband. If he manages to steal her away from God, then he will take all of the shame he can get. He asks her if she will take him to see it
