In this chapter, the young narrator is introduced to a new character, a professor named Neville Newman. He is the son of a former professor, and he is eager to learn from his father. He tells his father that he is now a professor and that he would like to be his student. He also tells his mother that he wants to make his debut by attending a tea party at Aunt Mary's house the next day.
