About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that the guys from the university are "scared" by the students at the school. He says that the school has a reputation for being "full of delinquencies" and that the students there are "straight saying that in Japanese gab let't go to mr. samurai gab and walk him there" . The narrator says that he's not sure if it's because the other students are "bailing on us" , or because they're afraid of him. He tells the narrator that he recently told the other student how he feels, and that he thanks him when he comes over to see him. The other student, however, doesn't seem to like him at all. He's been avoiding him, the narrator says, and he thinks this is because the students are scared of him . He wants to know what's wrong, but the narrator can't figure out what. The two of them start talking about "polymer chemistry," and the narrator explains that he hasn't yet been able to convince the student to spend time with him, even though he promised that he would make him happy. He apologizes, saying that he knows that the student is technically an adult, but he still has to go to school, so he'll have to act like an adult to her. He tries to get her to hug him, but she's too scared to do it, and the two hug each other, until the narrator realizes that he and the student are out of sync.
