In this chapter, we learn that Laura has been missing for fifteen years, and that she was presumed dead when she convinced a man to turn himself in to the colony. We learn that she had tied a bond to her wrist, and David had tried to silence her screams. We also learn that David has been arguing with his grandson about the nature of the world, and about the right to destroy it.
