About This Chapter
In this short scene, we learn that Alek has been shot in the leg, but he is not seriously wounded. He tells us that he only came to take medicine and that his friends have all died. He asks Alek if he is giving him medicine and disease, and Alek says that he is. Alek asks if it feels like he has become a "terrorist," and Alek replies that it is his fault for squeezing his way into the area where his friends died. Alek tells him that everything he has said is true and that he should not act cool. He says that the kid who was cut to pieces at the waist was around Alek's age, so he will not do anything to him. Alek says he does not have the strength to push the medicine over to relieve his anger, and he asks if he will do anything at all to the punk who has just been betrayed by the robot. He adds that he has been hoping that the punk would get out of his line of sight, and that step step is what he is being betrayed by. He realizes that this is not a dream, it is a nightmare. He cannot help but think about it happening, and realizes that he knows it is impossible. He knows that the more he denies reality, the more sensations return to him, and the situation feels more realistic. He also realizes that rather than trying for an escape, it was better to just deny
